"Ameliorate"的近義詞和區別

Q: ameliorate 和 Improve 的差別在哪裡?
A: Ameliorate means to make a bad situation better - Foreign aid is needed to ameliorate the effects of the drought.
Improve means to make something better that may or may not be bad - My English is very good but it will improve when I live in England.
Q: ameliorate 和 improve 的差別在哪裡?
A: They are pretty much the same, with exceptions of ameliorate is a formal word. Going into details:
Improve = to make/remedy something better; making something good to a better state;
Ameliorate = to improve unjust condition; making something from bad to good.

E.g.
John ameliorated his studying condition; he threw all his games away, turned off his Wi-Fi, cleaned his study desk, organized his study plan, and cancelled his cell phone monthly plan.

John further improved his studying condition by inviting a study partner, and he planned to set up a study group for math, which he had trouble with.
Q: ameliorate 和 improve 的差別在哪裡?
A: @Crystal_tmn in all honesty, “ameliorate” is one of those english words that even native speakers may not know. I only ever see it in books, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard it in person. But to answer your question, “ameliorate” means improve in the sense of making something bad less worse. An example is “ameliorate the pain”. “Improve” won’t really work in that example. I’d say it’s close in meaning to the word “alleviate”, which is a lot more common.
e.g. ameliorate/alleviate the pain/suffering
Q: ameliorate 和 improve 的差別在哪裡?
A: They both mean "to make better" but there is a difference. You can improve almost anything, even if it is quite good already. But if you try to ameliorate something, it means that you are trying to make a bad situation less bad. If, for example, the weather became unbearably hot, your boss might ameliorate the situation by suggesting that the workforce should start an hour earlier and then take a long break in the middle of the day.
