關於Bashful的意思和用法的提問

Why won't she talk to me? Could it be that she's a bashful person?

I've always heard bashful used as a temporary feeling of shyness while shy is used as a more permanent thing.
I could be wrong but it seems as if bashful is used for someone younger who can grow out of it while shy is a long lasting personality trait that isn't easy to grow out of.
I would call myself shy but I wouldn't call myself bashful.
Since bashful would be a form of shyness though, you could use shy in place of bashful but you couldn't use bashful in place of shy.
I could be wrong, but that's just how it sounds to me :)
