by association... "CLOTHING" refers to a bunch of clothes. Example: "What clothing are you bringing on your trip?"

A: "I'll give it a shot" is more for trying something new.... You can say "I want to try these clothes", or if it is one piece of clothing, you said the article of clothing it is. Examples: I want to try on this shirt. I want to try on these pants. I want to try on this skirt.
