A: a criminal commits a crime. A culprit is just someone who was revealed to have done something. A culprit probably did something wrong, but not necessarily something that is illegal or punishable.

Q: culprit 和 perpetrator 的差別在哪裡?
A: perpetrator is one who commits an offence or crime while culprit is the person or thing at fault for a problem or crime.

1

A perpetrator is someone who commits a crime (or other illegal activity). From Latin perpetrare, "to perform, accomplish"

A culprit is someone who is guilty of a crime (or charged with one). The first part is the same as in culpable, from the Latin for guilt (culpa)

You can be guilty of a crime without actually doing anything, such as standing by and not helping someone in distress. Negligence is something which would be a non-activity which would have a culprit, but not a perpetrator.

Q: Which do you think is more natural?
--
Why do you think I'm the culprit?
What makes you think I'm the culprit?
--
Thanks~
A: Both are..
interesting choices.. Here are my thoughts...although it doesn't necessarily make mine 'right,' because this might be a subjective view and differ with others.

Depending on context, "Why do you think I'm the culprit?" could have an almost whimsical feel to it. It's more direct and might be challenging the person asked to justify their conviction, opinion or belief. Depends how it's said and the tone of voice, facial expression

What makes you think I'm the culprit? ....feels more casual and that the person is really wanting to know what I think. ..but once again..it depends on the people.

Q: I knew it! I knew he is the real culprit!
聼起來自然嗎?
A: ‎I knew it! I knew he was*** the real culprit!

:)
Q: "he was the culprit of the mess of your room yesterday" 聼起來自然嗎?
A: I understand but it'd be more natural and correct to say "he was the cause of the mess in your room yesterday"
Q: Assuming that he is not the culprit, who is the culprit? Do you think who is? 聼起來自然嗎?
A: そうですよね。「Who do you think is?」です。
Q: Who's the culprit?
Who the hell ate my pudding which i kept in the fridge. 聼起來自然嗎?
A: 注意:
hell = 俗語
