關於Off的意思和用法的提問

A: Like I’m going/goodbye

A: More examples/meaning:
“Hey are you going to that ______ (event)?” “Yeah I’m off, are you?” (meaning I will be going)

“Alright guys I’m off now, see you tomorrow” (in this situation, leaving work at the end of the shift”

As someone else explained, saying “I’m off today” could mean you’re not going to work / school today

These are the 3 situations I can think of, I hear this phrase said in these situations quite regularly

A: "I'm off" could have several meanings.

1. It could mean that you're leaving.
2. It could mean that you don't need to go to work that day.
3. It could mean that you are telling someone that you are stupid.

A: I'm going to bed or I'm going to sleep.

A: "Right, good work today. I'm off."
"My shift's just ended, so I'm off. See you tomorrow!"
"I'm off to the shops. Do you want anything?"
"As soon as the clock strikes five, I'm off."
"Oh no, I'm going to be late! Right, I'm off. Bye!"

A: "I'm off" can be used the way you use "가요" it means you're going somewhere.
So you can say;
"I'm off to go shopping"
"I'm off to school"
"I'm off to work"
"We are off to school"
"Where are you off to?"
"Where are we off to?"

"I'm off" is what you can say when you're going somewhere instead of "I'm going" :)

A: Can off doesn't make sense. Can't is basically an abbreviation (short) form of can not. (They mean the same thing).
I can't go to the party.
She can't open the door.

A: @Gammin both expressions are very similar. for example, I will see you off at the train station. I will drop you off at the train station. see you off could also mean literally going to the train station with them.

A: @bakedbeans We have a lot of expressions for ending conversations, or leaving a group. Many of them are informal and friendly.

Also, "OK, I'm off", "Must dash", "See you later", etc. etc.

If you don't know the people so well you might say "I'm going" in the same way.

Right, I'm going now... etc.

There are no rules for this and our expressions are often quite informal. 🙂

But they are really the same.

A: When you are leaving you can say "Im off now" but if you were to say "I leave now" that would sound unnatural and weird. Instead you could also say "I'm leaving now" or "I'll be leaving now" these are all expressions people use before they leave (:

A: "I'm off" is a casual way of saying you are leaving, while "I quit" means you either give up on what you were doing, you're leaving and not returning, or both.

I'm off (of the bed) = I am not on the bed.
I'm off (to the store) = I am going to the store.
I'm off (mentally) = I am crazy.

Context can be implied, but with no context, it can be very confusing.
