A: I can understand what you're saying but it sounds quite strange. I'd personally say something along the lines of "when I was shopping, I dropped something, but it fell on a cushion, which reduced the impact and saved it."
Or "when I was shopping, I dropped something, but it luckily fell on a cushion so it didn't break."
