He claims that the government should be credited for all success in the business and economy of America because it provides the means (roads, bridges, etc.) for it to happen. The author explains that is an incorrect and absurd claim: for example, the government should not be credited for the invention of the iPhone simply because Steve Jobs drives on the roads paid for by the government.

Another example: A tree should be credited with the creation of apples because without it, there would be no apples. Steve Jobs, however, would have created the iPhone without roads anyways.

There are two main ways of pronouncing ‘th’, and there isn’t really a rule that will tell you which one it is. A lot of us native speakers learn pronunciation growing up by listening rather than by reading the spelling.

I can give you an example list though.

it indicates an ordinal number 5th (fifth), 6th (sixth), 7th (seventh)
5º (quinto), 6º (sexto), 7º (sétimo)

A: Th is an ordinal marker that goes after numbers to show their location in an order. However, not all numbers use it.

Do not use Th for: 1 (firST), 2 (secoND), 3 (thiRD) or numbers that end with those, like 41 (forty-firST), 82 (eighty-secoND), 103 (one hundred thiRD).

Do use Th for: 4 (fourTH), 5 (fifTH), 6 (sixTH), 7 (sevenTH), 8 (eighTH), 9 (ninTH), 10 (tenTH), 11 (elevenTH), 12 (twelfTH), 13 (thirteenTH) and so on. So, the majority of numbers will use TH for their ordinals, just not all.

A: Yes, in my second set of words (think, Thackeray, fourth) my tongue is between my teeth. In the first set, my tongue just touches the inside of my upper teeth.

A: Hmm, well I have been told by many 日本人that I have good 日本語の発音 and the way I learned was by singing along to 日本の曲.

I would pick a song that I liked, find the lyrics on Google, and then play the song. When the singer started singing, I'd try to read the lyrics and sing along.

Because I can't read Japanese quickly, the singer probably sings faster than I can read, so maybe I can sing the first two words with them but before I've even read the third word they're already on the next sentence lol.

So I have to restart the song many times and just sing until I can't keep up anymore.

Little by little, I memorize the song. Eventually I'll be able to sing the entire first sentence, then the second sentence, then the entire first verse, etc. Until finally, I can sing the whole song.

To memorize an entire song it takes me at least couple weeks (depending on how often I practice), but once I've memorized it, I don't have to read the lyrics anymore. I just listen to the song and sing.

Once I am able to do this, I can focus a lot on my pronunciation. I try to pronounce exactly like the singer. I sing the song over and over and over until my pronunciation is almost perfect.
