Tortoises live on land, turtles live in the water

So since person B interpreted the question as “How fast was the tortoise going on the motorway”, he/she replied that the tortoise was going 10 yards an hour. And that’s where the joke is. Tortoises are known for being slow, and 10 yards an hour would be an extremely slow speed.
