A: Update is a minor change within the same system software or model; Upgrade is a change of version or model, which could be software or hardware. Operating systems have their own updates all the time but if you switch to the latest operating system, then that would be an upgrade.

renew - to make something new again

usually renew is used when talking about online subscriptions such as amazon, Netflix, hulu, etc

A: update means to make something more up to date - it may however not necessarily improve something. "I will update you one your father's health tomorrow". It can also be used these days as a noun - "The update took four hours".
upgrade means to improve something. "I will upgrade your computer with a faster processor". Again, it can also be used as a noun these days - "We had an upgrade from economy class to first class on our flight".

Renewing something means that the thing you're renewing has ended (most likely said to be expired or terminated) in some way, and you're getting a new version of the same thing. Examples: you renew your driver's license, renew a contract, and renew the lease on your apartment.
