"severance pay" is an amount of money the company will pay you once after they fire you. It is only if they fire you and not if you voluntarily quit.

A: I can't think of any other meaning. It does make me think of the R&B singer named Usher though too. That might sound silly, but I think that's true for a lot of Americans, and wanted to mention it.
