"Way"的近義詞和區別

Q: I spend way too much time watching movies. 和 I spend way too much time ON watching movies. 的差別在哪裡?
A: They're pretty much the same! You can omit "on" or leave it in, doesn't really matter. In natural conversation, I would be more likely to use the first one.
Q: a way 和 a means 和 a resort 的差別在哪裡?
A: A "way" is like ”方”. It's a method of doing something. There can be a lot of these for one thing you do.
A "means" is a method by which something is possible.
A "resort" is a way, but one that you don't want to use. It's generally bad.

You really want to find a "way" to travel more. You could work longer hours, and be paid more for that; you could ask for a raise; or you could beg your family for money. You obviously don't want to do the last one, but the first two don't work, so you "resort" to begging for money.

For "means", I like to use criminal justice. In a trial, you need to prove that the suspect had means, motive, and opportunity to commit the crime.
Motive: a reason.
Opportunity: there was a time they could have committed the crime.
Means: that they were physically able to commit the crime.
Q: No way! 和 You're kidding! (Are you kidding?) 的差別在哪裡?
A: No way is when you can't believe something is true or when you refuse to do something. "No way, that can't be true!" "Will you do the dishes for me?" "No way!".

You're kidding is similar but it's specifically for when you are shocked or in disbelief.
"I heard Mr Smith cheated on his wife".
"You're kidding!"
Q: by the way 和 just so you know 的差別在哪裡?
A: I'm sure you know the literal meanings of the two phrases. Their difference is simply that they have different literal meanings. 😄
Q: By the way 和 Anyway 的差別在哪裡?
A: You use "by the way" when you need to add in something that is a little new to the conversation.
- "Are you traveling to France next month?"
- "Yes. By the way, I need to borrow your French phrasebook."
(You can also use "and" instead of "by the way")

You use "anyway" to change the topic.
- "I went to the Louvre, then I saw the Eiffel Tower. Paris was so beautiful! Anyway, let's talk about your vacation now. I heard you went to Italy."

Q: “I was driving on my way home and then I saw a tree falling across the road” 聼起來自然嗎?
A: × “I was driving on my way home and then I saw a tree falling across the road”
✓ As I was driving home, I saw a tree fall across the road.
(This indicates that you watched the tree fall)

You can also say:

On my way home, I noticed a tree had fallen across the road.
Or
On my way home, I saw a fallen tree on the road.

Both of these indicate that the tree had already fallen before you got there.

Q: She'd always find some way to duck me.

Above the sentence, which is one of scripts in the movie Flip, I don't know what's the exact word of 'd. Is it an abbreviation of would? Then I wonder why they put auxiliary verb, 'd in the sentence... I'd like to know the meaning or usuage of the verb... Could you help me??
A:

You’re welcome! There are actually a lot of ways “would” can be used. Here are some:

1 — talking about a habitual action in the past (like your sentence)
• When my friends and I were in high school, we would ride our bikes together every weekend.

2 — conditional
• She would have won the race if she hadn't tripped.
• If I could leave work early, I would.
• I could be any animal, I would be a lion.

3 — “would like” is a polite way to say “want”
• I would like some lemonade, please.
• We would like to help.
• I’d like to go to France some day.

4 — past tense of will, used to talk about the future in the past
• He said that he would be leaving soon.
(= in the past, he said, “I will be leaving soon.”)

5 — replaces “will” to make a question more polite
• Would you please help us?

6 — to be willing to do something
• I would do anything to protect my family.
• He wouldn't help us. (= he was not willing to help us)

7 — used to express a wish
• I wish my teacher would curve grades.
• I wish my dog wouldn’t bark so much.
Q: But there was a way to transcend the body and achieve immor-tality.
Zindell, David THE BROKEN GOD (2004)

In this sentence, the word 'immortality' has a dash between the 'r' and 't.' Is this intentional, or is it just a typographical error?
A: typographical error. Although, sometimes in texts a word will be hyphenated across two lines, like this:

But there was a way
to transcend the body
and achieve immor-
tality.

That may explain it.
Q: The way referred ______the problem sounds reasonable.

to to solve
or
to solve?
A: A. sounds less weird than the others.
The sentence with option A. sounds natural when spoken; but having two to's beside each other looks strange to the eye, so in writing, a different conjunction is often used if possible, in this case probably "in order to" instead of "to"; or a different structure entirely could be used: ". . .referred to for solving . . ."
