The English spoken in the US and the English spoken in the UK is of course the same language and there are no major differences. But there are thousands of minor differences in the way words are used. So I'm studying British English *as if it were* another language. (January 2014) Update (August 2020). There are thousands of differences between British and American English, but what sometimes surprises me is when I look for a "British" way of saying something and find that the British and the Americans use the same term.
