When quoting a rule or similar, it is better to use the word, "states" rather than "says" as this suggests that something is actually being said - "The triangle inequality states that one side of a triangle is always less than the sum of the other two.".

The triangle inequality states that the length of one side of a triangle is always less than the sum of the lengths of the remaining two sides.
