If you are apathetic you are showing no interest and lacking emotion. Apathy is a state of indifference therefore they are quite similar but they have their differences:
Indifferent means you do not care or are not concerned, whereas being apathetic means you are not capable of deep emotions (basically you are passionless). I hope this helps :)

the person who is apathetic might be like that most of the time to almost everything. whereas the person who is indifferent might be passionate to other fields. did I understand right?

Yes! If you think of it this way : apathetic is somewhat of a characteristic because you would be passionless about a lot of things whereas being indifferent depends on the topic, for example I am indifferent on economics because I feel like I am not good at maths so I do not care about it, however I am not indifferent on everything so that wouldn't make me apathetic. I hope that makes sense. It all really depends on the situation being discussed, you could use either terms to show how you or someone seems: for example during an argument one could say 'you are so apathetic!' Or 'you are so indifferent!'
