The second one, "was" appear twice. (Although, the first one has "is" in it.)
I am a bit confused with this structure...
As to the context of a sentence, something was hidden, and a person is making a comment about it.

There isn’t any difference between the two sentences because they both mean exactly the same thing.
What’s can mean ‘what is’ or ‘what was’ depending on the context. In this case it is clear because the sentence is in past tense.
However, word truncations like ‘what’s’, ‘that’s’ etc are more commonly found in spoken language as opposed to written or formal language.
