I was taught that "the best" is the correct one but I've seen many people say it without the definite article. For example, I saw this sentence in a book : "Monday is best for me"

In everyday speech, people often eliminate anything in a sentence that strictly does not need to be there. If my meaning is understood, I am generally not concerned with English rules.
