Water is to fish what air is to us. 和 Water for fish is like Air for us. 的差別在哪裡？如果不好說明，請提供一些例句。

I want to say "X is to you ＝ Y is to me". When I translate it, it becomes "X for you is like Y for me". I feel this sentence means "For me, X looks like Y" against my intention. What is wrong and how should I say?

eg) I think Pinchos for Spanish people may be like Sushi for Japanese people.

one is a proverb . the other is more of a statement

ahh sorry in that case the first example is a more formal way of phrasing the second statement.

it just sounds more poetic

@karaokween1 Thank you. I got it. Is my example "I think Pinchos for Spanish people may be like Sushi for Japanese people" grammatically right? I feel it means "For me, Pinchos looks like Sushi". I want to say "Pinchos is to Spanish people ＝　Sushi is to Japanese people".

@moondogfermata "I think Pinchos for Spanish people is like Sushi for Japanese people" sounds better. This does sound like "Pinchos is to Spanish people ＝　Sushi is to Japanese people".
