The first sentence is the most natural, though the third and fourth work too. Running in his place means he is running in his apartment/house/building/etc. which is pretty specific and likely not what you'd mean. Running in his area works, though it is a general statement and better for a response to somebody asking where somebody runs (be it in their area or if they drive further away).
Running in the street does make sense, but it is kind of literal. Unless asked about where he runs (i.e. the street, sidewalk, a field, in a park, etc.), it may be too specific.
An example of being too specific would be answering "Where do you eat?" and answering "off of a plate". Technically it makes sense, but generally you'd say something like "at home" or "at a restaurant".
