(re)start(*2) the machine(*1) 和 turn on the machine( again) 的差別在哪裡?如果不好說明,請提供一些例句。
I consulted some dictionaries, only one of which said they are the same.
All of them say "use "(re)start" when you are talking about computers or such.
I want to say "(re)start the machine" instead of lengthy "turn on the machine again" and "start operating the machine."
Note:
1. the machine includes industrial cooking machines, machine tools and so on. Not computers.
2. Restart means to me "to start operating the machine again after it has once been turned off."
Please tell me if you think they are the same or not, and, if not, tell me some good verbs to come with "machine." Thank you,

Well, in order to restart something, it first needs to be on.
If the computer is on, and I tell you to restart it, I’m basically saying “turn it off FIRST, THEN turn it back on (or turn it on again)”
Restarting means to to something off and then turn it on again - not just to turn it on again, but to first turn it off.
And yeah, restart is mainly used with electronics, but that doesn’t mean it’s uncommon. “Restart the car!”
For the most part these phrases are interchangeable, and I’m trying to find even the slightest bit of nuance between them, and it’s proving to be very difficult 😂

thank you very much, @Cabrini . Your definition made real good sense to me. So restarting is basically (turning it off first and) then on. Not simply “on again”. also, it became clear that we could use (re)start both for computers and machines. That makes things a lot easier for me. by the way, can I say I stop the machine?
One of my textbooks in Japanese for technical writing say you should say turn off the machine instead of stop the machine. according to the textbook, stop means to prevent moving things from moving. Thank you for your advise in advance.

@momcoco Yes you can say stop the machine, depending on what type of machine it is. If it’s a washing machine, then I’d say it’s fine, because the washing machine moves. If it’s a computer, then I’d say it sounds a little weird to say stop the computer, because it doesn’t actually move lol. But it’s safest to go with “turn off.” You can say that with pretty much any machine.

Thank you very much, Cabrini, again!
what about "start" (turn on?) the machine?
sorry for many questions, but your kind cooperation should be very much appreciated.

@momcoco no problem! And start is a very common word. It is frequently used when talking about cars. Aye bro, start the car. Start the engine. It’s used a lot when talking about sports. The game is about to start/begin. Both are natural. Did you start your homework? Did you start cleaning already? In fact, I’d say start is more frequent than begin! If you want, come up with some examples, and I can correct you if need be.

thank you very much for your comment and your kindness, @Cabrini. do you think “ start” will do for an industrial cooking machines? actually I do translating users manuals for industrial fryers and ovens, and I say, as an example, “ check if inside the oven is filthy before starting the machine. Otherwise, it could ignite once being heated.” Start, for me, means turning it on and starting operating it. Please kindly tell me what you think. Thank you.

@momcoco that make perfect sense and sounds very natural. It’s exactly what I’d expect to read!
