A correction is when you're changing something that was wrong/incorrect beforehand. While a modification is changing something that wasn't necessarily incorrect or wrong, but had room for improvement or could be changed in some way.
For Correction Examples:
Emma made a correction on her homework, as she got number five wrong.
or
You could make a correction here.
For Modification Examples:
Anna modified her project to make it better.
or
The final product needed a few modifications, but it was nearly all set to go.

If you make a correction, you fix a mistake. Something was wrong and you make it right.
If you make a modification, you change something. It might have been wrong, but wasn't necessarily wrong. I made some modifications to my car. It wasn't wrong or broken the way it was, I just wanted to change some things.
