Overseas Outsourcing Begins

In 1973, the year of crustal change in the anime industry, Toei Animation absorbed three Korean studios and outsourced painting jobs to them, as if following Tokyo Movie’s effort to bring up subcontract studios in Taiwan in the end of the 60s. Chapter 9 from _Drawing the Line_ says how American anime began depending on overseas manpower; so did Japanese anime autonomously. It is interesting that both the U.S. and Japan made efforts severally to ‘bring up’ cartoon talents in East Asian countries for the bourgeois reason.
