They're pretty much the same if you're responding to someone else.
Though "I'm glad to hear that" sounds half-finished in my opinion. Normally it would be followed by what you're glad to hear?
E.g.
I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better
And in this case you can start the conversation with this sentence.
"I'm glad to hear it" on the other hand is always a response.
E.g.
A: I tested negative for coronavirus
B: I'm glad to hear it / I'm glad to hear that

I agree with the previous answer. They are the same but you can add to the first one if you want! "I am glad to hear that (...)". You can't add anything after "I'm glad to hear it" though.
