Well I would firstly apologize for inconvenience and then ask the attendant what happened. Try and clear up the situation. Customers really appreciate it when you listen. If you feel your employee was out of line then its up to you how you want to them. But if you find that your customer is actually being difficult then you have duty to your staff.
The best thing to do is to stay calm.
