I heard that Tokyo Disneyland said it would retire the phrase “ladies and gentlemen” from their announcements made in English. This reminded me that I haven’t heard “ladies and gentlemen” for a while 🤔

I suppose in this world with all its gender/identity politics, it was bound to happen that they'd retire the phrase. It was only really used in formal settings or to address crowds of people anyway. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury..." is something you'd hear in courts.

It's still used but it's rather formal and you usually only hear it in formal stations. The trouble now here in the USA, and perhaps in other countries, is the effort to make everything so gender-natural. Maybe Disneyland there thought it would be offensive to say ladies and gentlemen today. Although I can't see why it would be a problem to anyone.
Here you'd still probably hear it at the beginning of a speech or a formal event like that.

@Eddie920 It sounds perfectly natural in an amusement park. I don't know what else they *would* say to address a crowd, to be honest. They need a new phrase lol.
