Imply - To make known another meaning of the said/written message. To make an existence of another thought possible. Usually in a stronger, more effective sense.
Hint - To subtly suggest and cause another action to occur.
Insinuate - Related with a negative thought, suggesting that something unpleasant is true.
Intimate - a formal way of an indirect announcement or statement to be delivered. direct and honest.
Situation: Your friend made you choose between two attires for a business meeting:
A : I like the first outfit better.
B : Are you insinuating that the second outfit is bad?
A : No, I'm implying that the first one would be more proper for a business meeting.
B: But does it look good on me?
A: Well, it does look proper for a formal event. (I am hinting that it doesn't look good on you, but at least it's proper.)
B: I'll take that as a hint. I'll choose another outfit instead.
A: Hurry up, the boss just made a miss call. I think he's intimating that the meeting is of high importance, thus no one must be late... We are almost late..
hope this helps
