I haven't done it in a long time and I haven't done it for a long time are both used in English. For example I have not ridden a horse in a long time. I have not ridden a horse for a long time.
I have never done it in a long time (or for a long time) is gramatically incorrect.

It means for a long duration or quantity of time. Past or future would depend on context. I haven't gone for a long time is talking about the past. We aren't going for a long time refers to the future.
