@AngryKorean55 you can say “I was late for school”, no need to use articles. As for omitting articles it depends on the nouns. For example:

Brazil is an interesting country. (You don’t need to say “The Brazil”.)

I don’t understand Japanese. (No need to say “The Japanese”)

Another example omitting and not omitting:

Spring is my favorite season. (General statement)
The spring I spent with you was amazing. (Specific spring I spent with someone)
