I see! I couldn't understand the sentence because I imagined that the general was captured in Rome and so I also guessed "in" is missing. I didn't know "capture something" means "attack the place and occupy it".

It seems it requires knowledge about Rome and that's why makes it difficult to understand for Japanese..
