@MooCat These are a bit awkward, especially the second one. Did you see them somewhere?
Contradict = disagree ("speak against" is the root)
Mutually exclusive = one excludes the other
So the meaning of the main part is not quite the same.

Contradictory means that two things conflict with each other, and that both things can't coexist. However, this can be on a spectrum. You can have something completely true and false, or you can have two things that both could be right, but they both can't be right at the same time. For example, saying that all sheep are animals, and then later saying not all sheep are animals, is contradictory. However another murkier example would be that you might say it is always wrong for rich people to steal from the poor no matter the circumstances, but then later say that in some situations it is okay, and later say again it is completely wrong. Both things can't be the truth at the same time. In this case, we can only say you have been contradictory - not mutually exclusive.
Mutually exclusive usually refers to two or more things are concrete opposites, and have no way of existing together. For example, war and peace are mutually exclusive - you can't have both states at once. Some other examples are truth and fallacy, going backwards and forwards at the same time, etc. You might hear people say something like "Well, they're not mutually exclusive" - this means that they may be open to some kind of compromise or negotiation.
I hope that helped.

@Igirisujin thank you 😊
I see! I think I saw them somewhere (I don’t quite remember where it was) Are there any more natural ways to put them?

@MooCat You can say 'not contradictory', so in a sentence example:
"These two instructions are not contradictory."
And also 'not mutually exclusive':
"The excursions and activities are not mutually exclusive."

I see! so if you say all apples are red, and then later say not all apples are red, we can say you have been contradictory.
What makes it wrong to say the aforementioned “both things” are mutually exclusive? (Maybe I guess that’d be because they’re not that ‘concrete opposites’?)

>>These two instructions are not contradictory.
Hmm is that like, the instructions saying turn off the light and open the window are not contradictory?
>>The excursions and activities are not mutually exclusive.
Does this mean that you can make it and do the excursions and activities at the same day?
