Only because it uses an expression that is not common in English.
How does one crow fly? 😀
When giving directions, it is generally expressed in directional terms (left, right, straight etc.) or cardinal terms (North, north-east etc.), combined with distance and/or using landmark references.
“How can I get to the station?” ✅
“It's quite difficult to explain, but it’s about 500 metres..” ✅
“..as the crow files.” => ..straight ahead.
You should follow this map. ✅
