Dozed off / nodded off / fell asleep
All mean the same thing. Dozed off or nodded off suggest it was just a light and accidental falling asleep. But fell asleep can also be accidental.

a person can be alseep for many reasons...He may be exhausted,bored or anything else.
HE SLEPT- Here the person slept intentionally...Because he was intended to sleep.
Like we all go to the bed with the intention to sleep.
But suppose you're doing something or you are studying and you slept meanwhile (You came to know about this in morning when you see...books on you or you are on the book.. that mean you fell asleep but you weren't intended to do so.
