有關 英語 (美國) 的問題

I would like to know better expression for the words "more than one." For example, "we consider a function of more-than-one variables", when "more than one" is necessary to emphasize it is not a single variable. The words "multiple variables" may be used but "multiple" seems to express that the variables are so many. "A few" and "several" are also inappropriate for my purpose. I do not know whether the word "plural" can be used instead of "more than one". I suppose that the combination of the three words is not very beautiful. Is there any smarter word?
Thank you very much in advance.
