The mean is " as in the past; as before; as always"
一=complete;absolutely。
如=the same as
既往=the past

It seems like you are reading some net literature. Be very careful about what you learn from it as a language learner, because some of the authors are quite young and still making serious flaws.
Here are some more synonyms of the idom 一如既往 for your reference:
一如往昔
一如從前
similar to:

@Soysaucetw I noticed that. do you know where I can find good content to read online? specifically something I can highlight, copy and paste etc?

This is actually beyond my reach though.
And I think language flaw is an in-built feature of net literature, for it empowered much more people to become a writer despite of their language mastery level, which means the popularity may have less to do with its language level.
(I'm curious that if it's the same in the English world? )
A suggestion that I can think of now is to find a forum where you can ask about which authors or works stand out for the quality in terms of writing in the genre you like. Or maybe start with elder generation authors.

@Soysaucetw in the US, I think writers can become popular based on a lot of things, but as far as net novels etc, I never really focused on that kind of stuff until I started learning mandarin. I'm always trying to find novels that aren't too difficult. when I read popular authors its usually too difficult, and when I read easy stuff its usually a kids book, which is too easy, boring, or short in content in my opinion. It seems that web novels allow me to keep skipping books until I find something that suits my level, but the more I learn the more I realize that there are mistakes. I guess I can't have everything perfect.
I appreciate the insight you've given me. A lot of times in mandarin its very cloudy and I get lost or don't know where i am until someone explains where i am or teaches me the culture to help me understand more about your world. Thanks for the info. I hope one day i can eventually pick up any book and understand most of what going on.

This book just popped up in my mind out of nowhere :)
(Traditional Chinese Edition) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09PL8BR8Z?ref_=cm_sw...
It is translated from Japanese, but as I recalled its quality is high and consists of many motto-like life advices. I bought several copies to give out as present many years ago.
I'm looking for language exchange partners recently to improve my speaking fluency. If you feel like doing so, you can contact me at oonaipp@gmail.com, and I will also be more than happy to guide you through the book as well as other Chinese learning questions. :)
