Apartment is a kind building of house you may live, it is a building. You can say something like "my family live in the apartment " but you can not say my family live in house. About "house" is kind of word which is the abstract noun which include all kinds of buildings .when some situation you need to say actually what kind of building you live, you can use "apartment",some situation like someone ask your address , you can use house. I think it can help you. : )

Here in Australia we usually associate houses as one building made for one family. They usually have at least two or three bedrooms, lounge/living rooms, a front yard, backyard and garage, and sometimes have verandas. 🏠🏡
Apartments are buildings where there are several floors and people can live in them like they live in a house. They are kind of like hotels but not as fancy, and typical affordable ones are quite small. They usually have a veranda but no personal front yard or backyard. When you enter them, there will be stairs. On each floor will be at least one door, which is the "house" of one resident. 🏫🏢🏩🏨
