When talking about the intent to do something in the future, they mean the same thing.
Examples:
1. I am going to go to the store this evening.
I will go to the store this evening.
2. I'm going to clean my room.
I will clean my room.

These are two different words with no relation in meaning.
Will- use to refer future
Going - use to refer act of leaving
Example: I will give candy after dinner.
I'm going home now
