It can be very hard to know if a noun is countable or uncountable if you have not had the experience of using it before. I strongly suggest remembering what category a noun is when you first learn the word.
Uncountable nouns do not have a plural form - for example, "milk", "money", "honey" are all uncountable. As a result, you have to use a measure word when talking about their quantity (think Chinese 一个 etc).
Example: a glass of milk / (a milk*, wrong)
a lot of money / (a money*, wrong)
a spoonful of honey / (a honey* wrong)
Countable nouns can take the definite article "a/an". Examples include "apple", "pie", "tiger", etc. You do not have to use a measure word with these.
Example: I bought three apples.
I baked a pie.
He rode a tiger.
Uncountable nouns generally take the word "much" or "a lot of" in front of them when describing quantity.
Example: You put too much milk in my tea.
He has a lot of money.
(She has many bread*, wrong)
Countable ones generally take the word "many", but can also take "a lot of".
Example:
He has many apples.
You have many tigers.
She made a lot of pies.

He has many loaves of bread. (unit = loaf)
He has lots of bread. (as a substance in general)
many coins, many bills;
much cash
I got a strawberry milk (=one unit, one bottle/carton) from the vending machine.
Would you like some strawberry milk? (undefined amount)
Would you like a strawberry milk? (a unit, a container)
"lots of/loads of/heaps of" = a lot of
Hope these things help :)
