In U.K. English, Petrol is used instead of gas.
Gas is more US English.
If you want to speak US English, they don't use litres as a measurement of volume.
The rest isn't so bad actually.
We've run out of petrol, we need a litre more to get home.
We've run out of gas, we need a gallon more to get home.
