Hi!

I've seen both 'わたし' and '私' used in sentences. I personally learned it in its kanji form, but I've also seen native speakers on here use the hiragana spelling.

Are they both correct and thus interchangeable, or is there a certain rule for when to use one variant or the other?

They are interchangeable.
Writing in hiragana (わたし) looks softer, so some people likes to write in hiragana.
