I think that's just fine. You could also say "We set off ON an adventure". They're basically equivalent, with some nuances.
Subtle difference 1: With "on", the adventure probably starts as soon as you set off. This isn't necessarily true with "for" (maybe you have to travel a bit before the adventure starts).
Subtle difference 2: With "for", the adventure is probably the reason for choosing to set off. With "on", this isn't necessarily the case (maybe you didn't know it would be an adventure at the time, but you're telling the story afterwards).
