In the first sentence, the judge gave the man a 15-year sentence but he reduced the term by 14 years and 11 months down to only one month. In the second sentence, the judge gave the man a 15-year term but only reduced the term by one month. So, in the first sentence, the man has to serve only one month. In the second sentence, the man has to serve 14 years and 11 months.
