They mean the day thing. colleague is a more formal way of saying it. It is also used for more prestigious jobs, such as a professor or another professional. Coworker is less formal. For example if you worked at a restaurant you would say coworker. But if you worked as a doctor or lawyer you would say Colleague.

This is a great question. There’s only a subtle difference, and it’s not really noticeable throughout conversations with native speakers. It’s kind of a formal or informal way to speak of someone.
The prefix-
Co-: 1. together; joint or jointly; mutual or mutually: coproduction
Co-worker can really be used for someone who you are a more nicely acquainted with, someone who is a more gentle environment. It’s usually someone who works in the same department as you. Maybe an assistant.
Colleague is just a fellow worker. Someone you know through professional reasons.
