To have a hang- up is to have a strong personal dislike of something, for example: I have a hang-up about people who stare at me. To be hung up on something is to obsess about it, to be unable to stop thinking about it, to give it undue attention or worry : I was hung up on Joe, but he didn't even know I was alive ( gave no attention to me).

Thanks so much for a very clear explanation. So, these two seem to have opposite nuances: hang-up implies aversion, hung up means attraction. Using the same words, hang and up,... Interesting.
