有關 瑞典語 的問題
I’m currently trying to learn Swedish Pronunciation so that when I see a new word I can pronounce it correctly, but I’m running into problems with vowel length. I’ve read all of the rules concerning when a vowel should become long and when it should be short, and I understood it fine until I heard some words being pronounced. For example, I heard the word ‘Organiserad’, but the only long vowel in that word is the ‘e’, but I don’t know why because the ‘a’, the ‘i’ and the other ‘a’ follow the length rules but they’re short. Can someone please explain to me when the rules apply in a word because, after learning the rules, there are a lot of words that aren’t following them and I don’t understand why 😞

Swedish doesn’t have that many rules, I think you just have to learn them separately because that’s what we usually do. Don’t get me wrong though there is some rules. It’s hard to just look at a word you’ve never heard before and know how to pronounce it, even I can’t pronounce some Swedish words I’ve barley heard just by looking at them.
If you’ve learned the alphabet you’ll know that every letter has one sound just as in English, but when there’s two of the same consonant after a vowel (A,E,Y,U,I,O,Å,Ö,Ä) the letter changes its sound. I think that’s the only rule there is to as how to read and pronounce a word you’ve never heard before.

@Tadhg27 kind of. I guess you could say that the 2nd sound is a shorter. To me though it’s a completely different sound.

@EmmaSka Yeah I understand what you mean. But can the vowels only change sounds if they are in the emphasised/stressed (betonade) part of a word?

@Tadhg27 no, they only change its sound when there’s two of the same consonant after it

@EmmaSka Oh i thought that rule only applied if the vowel and consonant(S) were in the stressed syllable

@Tadhg27 oh, well it applies for every vowel no matter what pair of consonants are after it, but it has to be right after for it to change sound

@EmmaSka But for example, the ‘e’ in ‘Organiserad’ doesn’t have a pair of consonants after it and it’s a long vowel. Why is that?

@Tadhg27 it becomes short when there’s a pair of consonants after it. Since there isn’t a pair of the same consonant after the “e” it remains its original sound. Which is “long”

@Tadhg27 we don’t have long and short like you do in English. The short and long vowels are different sounds. Ex. If the word “organiserad” were to be spelt as “orgaisserad” it would be pronounced like this:

@EmmaSka Can I just ask, this isn’t related to my original question, but is the stressed syllable of a word the syllable that has the accent/tone mark on it?

@Tadhg27 I don’t think so. In the accent ”skånska” it’s always the “r” that’s different (“has the accent mark on it”). They can’t really say “r”, but the stressed part of a word is always the same, because that’s just how you pronounce it. To answer your question 😂 no not always (I don’t think so at least)

@Tadhg27 I don’t think so. If there is a way, I don’t know about it since even I often stresses the wrong syllable if I’m unfamiliar with the word
