People born in the 20th century (1900s) say these expressions.
Examples:
"Back in the old days (Ive heard people say "back in the olden days" too) we didn't have cell phones!"
"In the old days (same here "In the olden days" is said as well) you had to respect your elders!"
"Back in the day (also said as "back in my day") we didn't have fancy gadgets. We had dirt and we were happy!"
All these are stereotypical examples 😂but it explains it pretty well.
They mean the same thing. No difference.

@tjstkdn They're common expressions with old people, yes. These expressions are used to compare the past with the present time. I remember for example, my grandpa telling me about how his mom couldn't get chicken like we do now. She had to get a chicken and butcher it herself. A situation like this would be where one would use one of these expressions.
I don't use them unless I'm joking around.
