He wasn't there. He didn't show up.

I wasn't able to pick up my check. I didn't pick up my check.

Thanks~ it means if we use wasn't need to follow gerund. If use didn't just follow the original verb.

You're correct about didn't, but not necessarily about wasn't. I wasn't interested; he wasn't even 12 years old when it happened; we weren't (or she wasn't) in Mexico.

So sometimes I will confuse when use 'wasn't ', it seems no special rule. No like didn't which can use it very clearly.

--> Signals intention. Room for uncertainty 'I wasn't going to go but I changed my mind'.

I didn't go to the party.

--> Fact.

He didn't show up.

--> An appointment was made to meet with someone (but he didn't show up).

I wasn't able to pick up my check.

--> Something prevented you from carrying out the action (eg. too busy,
I didn't pick up my check.

--> Either something prevented you from carrying out the action, or you just decided not to.

Actually I found that learning Grammar is very difficult. As it has many different tense. Ex-- present perfect tense & past perfect tense. Present perfect progressive & past perfect progressive. They are very similar, so it's very confuse & easy to make the mistake .
