"I am going to be a half an hour late" sounds unexpected. "I will be there half an hour late" sounds planned. "I ran into some traffic! I am going to be a half hour late!" "My meeting doesn't get out until 5pm. I will be a half an hour late to the 4:30 movie showing."

A half hour is more slang or used informally with friends. A half an hour is more formal. But you are correct a half hour is not grammatically correct.

@jickoon: A half hour 는 틀리지 않아요 :) 상황에 따라서 half an hour 말고 그 문장 쓰셔야 돼요.
It was a half hour drive from my house.
It is a half hour program.
그리고 get out는...
My meeting doesn't get out until 5pm = my meeting doesn't end until 5pm.

@Vicinian: 감사합니다! 근데요 i will be there a half hour late에서 late 대신에 later을 쓰면 (a half hour later) 문장 뜻이 완전 달라지죠?

I will be there half an hour late -
I will be there half an hour later -

@Vicinian: (on the phone)
A:hey, where you at? we are running late! it's just 15 minute left!
B:i'm so sorry. i'm heading there. but i will be there a half hour (late/later)
later 쓰면 그냥 간단하게 말하는순간으로부터(from the moment of speaking) 30분 늦는다는거죠?

3:00 PM: I'm running late! I'll be there in 20 minutes!
3:10 PM: The traffic is really bad... I'll be there 30 minutes later!
정확하게 말하시고 싶으면, X minutes later 말고, in another X minutes라고 하시면 돼요 :)
3:10 PM: The traffic is really bad... I'll be there in another 30 minutes!
