a child = any child--this generalizes that nature is the best teacher for children.
the child = specifically one child OR any child. The child--nature is maybe the best teacher for this child, but not this other child. Any child--saying "the" in this sense gives off a more philosophical vibe (in my opinion). It sounds a little more formal or wise. Like you're talking about children in a more spiritual sense. Sorry if that is confusing--it is a little difficult to describe. If it didn't make sense, stick to the specific child explanation for now. :)

@jorddan Thanks for your detailed explanation. By the way, in the sentence ‘a’ is stuck to ‘child’ or teacher? I mean, which is correct between ‘Nature is (a child’s) best teacher.’ and ‘Nature is a (child’s) best teacher?
